After their tour of Canada, William and Catherine headed to California where they hosted a star-studded BAFTA Brits to Watch 2011 gala on Saturday (July 9).
The Prince is president of the charity and was eager to promote the British film industry and its stars, reports the Daily Mail.
With her trademark understated elegance, Catherine was dressed in a flowing floor-length lavender Alexander McQueen gown, simply accessorized with a sparkly pavé belt showcasing her tiny waist, chandelier-style diamond earrings lent to her by the Queen, her own beautiful diamond bracelet, silver beaded clutch, and silver Jimmy Choo platform stilettoes
The Hollywood elite were eager to finally meet the star newlyweds, and according to Us Weekly, the majority of celebrities were a bit nervous about meeting ‘WillKat,’ as they had been dubbed.
On the red carpet prior to the Belasco Theater event, Nicole Kidman admitted she was a bit nervous about meeting them, “Oh. I don’t know. I’m quite shy.” Later on she was photographed chatting and laughing with William.
The royal couple also mingled with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Jennifer Garner, James Brolin and Barbra Streisand to name a few. Jennifer Lopez was accompanied by her mother, Guadalupe, and others in attendance included Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, comedian Jack Black,
Before dinner, William made a speech that he drew laughter with a reference to the recent hit film, The King’s Speech, about his great-grand father, King George V1. “Before I start I should just like to thank Colin Firth for my perfect opening line – ‘I have a voice’,” he said.
The next day, the couple attended a couple more charity events before flying back on a commercial British Airways flight. Finally, William and Catherine’s 10-day visit has come to end, but the couple promised their new North American admirers that they would return.
