All aboard China’s golden bus

City of Nanjing has gold-plated passenger bus.

Bus passengers in the Chinese city of Nanjing have been in for a real surprise, as a gold-plated passenger coach has started making the daily rounds, reports Le Blog Luxe.

Creatively called The Golden Bus, the entire exterior of the vehicle is plated with 24 karat gold leaf, save for the glass windows. The interior remains unchanged, and the bus has continued with regular service, running the usual number-two bus route since April 25.

The golden makeover is part of a promotional stunt from a neighborhood jeweler, and the $30,000 price tag is over ten times the going rate for your more traditional bus advertisement.

Home to over five million people, the city of Nanjing is located in China’s Jiangsu province. The city’s name means "Southern Capital", and Nanjing did serve as the Chinese capital at various points in history. In 2014, the city will play host to the Summer Youth Olympic Games.
