Eminem’s new video focuses on domestic violence

Space Bound depicts murder-suicide.

Yesterday (June 27), award-winning rapper Eminem launched the music video for his latest single Space Bound, released last Friday from his seventh studio album Recovery, reports Music News.

The clip has Eminem singing about another failed relationship. Former porn actress Sasha Grey stars as his girlfriend, and eventually as his victim, after he strangles her and shoots himself.

The depressing, violent video, directed by Joseph Kahn (Without Me, Love the Way You Lie), features a graphic representation of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, showing a slow motion spray of blood as the bullet exits the rapper’s brain

Actress Sasha Grey explained her interpretation of the Space Bound video to MTV, saying that Eminem was trying to depict the reality of relationships, that even the strongest of relationships can result in domestic violence.

"Em[inem] simply becomes company for [his girlfriend], and she mistakenly takes advantage of that." She said that the video could be interpreted “in many ways.”

Perhaps one day Eminem will take a page from Stieg Larsson, and feature a woman who refuses to allow herself to be victimized.

Delving repeatedly into themes of domestic violence, the rapper is no stranger to controversy and the violent video may not be approved for broadcast on several TV channels.
