That ’70s perfume

Halston bestsellers revamped for a new generation.

Halston, the famous American design house that rose to fame in the 1970s, has unveiled new platinum-hued designs for the relaunch of its famous bestselling fragrances Halston Man and Halston Woman, reports Elle.

Launched under the license of Elizabeth Arden, the latest versions retain the distinct fluid shapes of the originals flacons designed by Elsa Peretti.

Perfumer Carlos Benaim was chosen to reinterpret the 1975 scent for today’s market. Interestingly, Benaim worked as a junior perfumer to Bernard Chant in the creation of the original fragrance.

"I followed the basic idea, but added ingredients that were not available when the first scents were launched,” explained Benaim.

Halston Man is composed citruses, Artemisia, passionfruit, lavender, mint, cardamom, patchouli, labdanum and musk. The common essence for both scents is the obvious note of patchouli. Priced from $90 to $125, the perfume is available as 75 and 125 ml eau de toilette.

Founded in 1968, Halston achieved great fame after designing the pillbox hat Jacqueline Kennedy wore to her husband’s 1961 presidential inauguration, and when he moved to designing women’s wear, Newsweek dubbed him "the premier fashion designer of all America."

His designs were worn by Bianca Jagger, Lauren Hutton, Liza Minnelli, Anjelica Huston, Lauren Bacall, Babe Paley, and Elizabeth Taylor, setting a style that would be closely associated with the international jet set of the era.

The label was acquired by new investors in 2007 and Mario Schwab was appointed creative director. The company introduced the new fragrances to create awareness of the revamped brand.
