Loverdose from Diesel

Scent designed to stimulate hypothalamus.

Italian fashion brand Diesel has introduced its new Loverdose fragrance for women, reports Elle. After a series of Fuel for Life fragrances for men and women, men’s perfume Only the Brave, the trendy brand has created Loverdose, a play on the phrase ‘love overdose.’

Diesel reportedly furthered their search for an irresistible scent by adding molecules that stimulate the hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain responsible for emotions and sexual response. So the brand warns women that it is a “beautiful but deadly weapon of seduction,” and that it will “ignite passions like never before.”

Loverdose is a floral blend of ingredients, including spicy opening notes of star anise and mandarin. Sambac jasmine, licorice and gardenia petals form the heart notes followed by amber, vanilla and woody base notes.

The transparent purple glass bottle resembles a tilted heart-shaped diamond pierced by an arrow. Available in 35, 50 and 75 ml eau de parfum, Loverdose is slated for release September 1. The ad campaign features up-and-coming 19-year-old gap-toothed Texan model Ashley Smith.

Founded in 1978, Diesel is an Italian design company best known for upscale clothing aimed at the young adult market, particularly jeans. Co-founder Renzo Rosso said they learned marketing from the U.S., creativity from Italy, and systems from Germany.
