The race is on in Montreal

Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada 2011 zooms into Quebec this weekend.

The Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada kicks off this weekend in Montreal, and the city is putting on a host of special events to celebrate the start of the racing season in Canada.

The race will take place at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Practice laps begin tomorrow (June 10), with the qualifier on Saturday and the final race on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. local time.

Drivers will make 70 laps around the 4,361 km circuit, driving a total of 305,270 km before the race is done.

There will be autograph sessions, performances and celebrations taking place all over the city, but one of the biggest events is the Crescent Street Grand Prix Festival, which runs from June 9-11.

Musicians like Fefe Dobson, Sloan and Down With Webster will entertain the crowds for free each evening at 9:30 p.m., while daytime events will include driver autograph sessions, pit stop challenges and other activities.
