Bono and The Edge play American Idol finale

U2 band members to promote new Spiderman musical on TV talent contest.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 25, American Idol will continue its tradition of inviting major musical artists to perform at its grand finale.

Now in its tenth season, the singing talent contest will host Irish rockers, U2 frontman Bono and guitarist The Edge, for a performance on the finale. At the end of the evening, viewers will discover whether constestants Scotty McCreery or Lauren Alaina will take the top honors this year.

In an interview with Billboard after the Sunday’s award show in which the band picked up the award for Top Touring Artist, band manager Paul McGuinness, confirmed the band’s next stop was the season finale rehearsal for American Idol.

An announcement posted on the band’s website confirms that “Bono and Edge will appear alongside Reeve Carney, who plays Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark which is set to open on Broadway, June 14.”  The two musicians wrote the music and lyrics for the rock musical based on the comic-book hero.
