Tim McGraw sued by record label

Curb Records sues country star for breach of contract.

Country singer Tim McGraw is being sued by his record label of 20 years, Curb Records, over accusations of breach of contract, reports Billboard.

According to the label, McGraw’s latest album, Emotional Traffic, does not fulfill the terms of the contract because the music was recorded too long ago to be "topical and new."

Under the terms of the contract, the singer must space each recording by 12 to 18 months. The suit alleges that McGraw began recording the upcoming album in or before 2008, "in a transparent tactic to attempt to fulfill his… commitment to Curb prematurely in breach of the recording agreement."

McGraw had hoped that Emotional Traffic would be his last for the label, fulfilling his contract requirements and freeing him to work for another record company. The company is now seeking another album and an injunction period where the singer would not be permitted to work for another label.

According to a spokesperson for the musician, "The label is holding the album hostage from country music fans in an attempt to force Tim McGraw to serve perpetually under a contract that he has already fully and faithfully completed."
