Kate Winslet and St. John go to the movies

Oscar-winning movie star is a natural for theater fashion shoot.

Just two weeks after announcing Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet as their new brand ambassador, upscale American knitwear label St. John has unveiled the first images of its campaign with the Titanic star, repots Coco Perez.

St. John wanted the campaign to be as realistic as possible, so Winslet’s photo shoot was set in an old Loews movie theater in Jersey City – shot by photographer Craig McDean.

"They want to keep it looking like me and not have it look like me pretending to be a model wearing these clothes,” said Winslet, perhaps alluding to Lancome’s heavily airbrushed – some say unrecognizable – photos of the British actress.

“I’m obviously not a model. I’m not the size of a model. I don’t have the face of a model or the shape of a model,” said Winslet, sounding like a spokesperson for most of womankind.

The British beauty follows in the footsteps of Gisele Bundchen, Angelina Jolie, and Karen Elson, as the newest star in St. John’s upcoming fall advertising campaign.

"She is an accomplished, beautiful woman with an extraordinary body of work, and one of the most admired actors of her generation," said creative director George Sharp. "She embodies the modern sensibility of St. John – she is contemporary and authentically captures the style of the St. John woman."

The feeling was mutual, of course, and Winslet said, "The St. John collection is effortless and chic, and I think speaks to how real women live and dress today. I am excited to collaborate with George and work with St. John."

The Reader star has been busy on the modeling circuit as she is also brand ambassador for Swiss watch company Longines, and French cosmetics company Lancome – both labels that align well with St. John clientele.
