Legendary Cinecitta studio in Rome opens doors to public

Exhibit features directors Fellini, Bertolucci, and Scorsese.

Italian cinema is considered a pioneer in the advancement and mastery of the cinematic arts. Now, tourists visiting Rome will have the opportunity to visit Cinecittà Studios, where many Italian and American film classics were made.

The Cinecittà si mostra – Cinecittà Shows Off exhibit will be open to the public until November 30. It’s a unique opportunity to see where the great masters Federico Fellini, Giuseppe Bertolucci and Martin Scorsese, to name a few, created their sets and filmed some of the most significant films of the past 100 years.

Since opening in 1937, nearly 3,000 films have been shot at the studio, including Ben-Hur, Cleopatra, La Dolce Vita, , and more recently, Nine and Gangs of New York.

Visitors can view famous movie sets and walk through the complete production of a film, from script to filming to final assembly.

Memorable costumes on display include Elizabeth Taylor’s gold gown and intricate Cleopatra wig, the glittering white dress worn by Audrey Hepburn for the War and Peace movie poster, and Anita Ekberg’s slinky velvet dress and fur stole from La Dolce Vita.
