Drinking fresh milk may put health at risk

Raw milk can contain harmful bacteria.

Many people drink fresh milk in the belief that unpasteurized milk contains more nutrients. However, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that the pasteurization process does not remove essential nutrients or reduce the nutritional value of milk.

In fact, experts do not recommend the consumption of raw milk, especially for children or those with immune disorders due to the potential risk for infection.

Raw milk is more likely to contain bacteria such as Listeria, Salmonella and E. coli. It may also promote the growth of pathogenic bacteria that cause disease and symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, fever, headaches and other complications.

Since there is no definitive proof that fresh is better than pasteurized, it is best to avoid drinking milk that has not been first pasteurized, which involves heating the milk to kill harmful organisms.
