Footwear manufacturer New Balance is sponsoring a contest in the U.K. for couples who share the same name as the royal couple Will and Kate (or Catherine, Katie, William, or any other valid derivative).
In celebration of the royal wedding this Friday, April 29, couples can enter a contest to win a not-for-sale anywhere, limited edition pair of personalized commemorative sneakers, or ‘trainers’ as they call them in jolly old England.
The special edition 576 sneaker style in blue and red has one tongue embroidered with ‘Kate,’ and the other with ‘Will.’
A special Facebook page tells would-be contestants that, “All you have to do is upload a photograph of yourselves to the New Balance Running UK Facebook page, and you’ll be in the running to become one of the ten couples to win the strictly limited edition New Balance 576 shoes which have been produced to coincide with the celebrations.”
Ten winning couples will each receive a pair of running shoes, made to their specific foot size and width, and their choice of name to be embroidered on each shoe.
Closing date for entries is Thursday April 28, with the winning couples announced on the royal wedding day, Friday, April 29.
Interestingly, New Balance was founded by an English immigrant, William J. Riley, in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1906.
