Today (April 20), organizers confirmed legendary heavy metal band Metallica will be performing at the upcoming Quebec City Summer Festival (Festival d’été de Québec).
The hard rock quartet — James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo — will take the Bell Stage on the Plains of Abraham on Saturday, July 16. Celebrated guitarist Joe Satriani will open the evening’s performance.
"This has got to be the band that we get the most requests for!" enthused Dominique Goulet, the festival’s programming director. "For years, festival fans have been asking us for Metallica and we were finally able to line up their free dates with our schedule."
The full and final lineup for the 2011 festival is expected to be announced soon. Last week, event organizers confirmed that Elton John would be headlining on July 9.
Other confirmed acts include Cage the Elephant, Girl Talk and The Black Keys on July 10, and Thomas Fersen on July 17, according to the festival website.
About 1.5 million people attend the festival each year. The eleven-day extravaganza includes more than 1,000 artists performing almost 300 shows at 12 venues throughout the city.
