Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry reach custody agreement

Oscar-winning actress and French-Canadian model resolve custody battle.

One year after their separation, it appears Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, 44, and her ex, French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, 34, have finally put an end to their custody battle over their 3-year-old daughter, Nahla.

A source close to the actress said Berry never sought sole custody, but that the couple had reached an impasse, and needed a judge to intervene. In an interview with Extra, the actress revealed the court proceedings went well.

“When there’s a child involved, it’s a relief when you can resolve things in a good way. Our issues were never about fighting for her," Berry said of Nahla. “We both know a child needs both her parents.

“But what I want to say about it is sometimes, as a couple, you reach an impasse. We needed a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issues, and I’m so happy we’ve arrived at that place – because for her sake, this is the best way. We both love her more than life.”

Last April, the couple split, and on December 30, Aubry filed court papers seeking formal recognition as Nahla’s father as well as joint legal and physical custody. The action appeared to trigger the custody battle with Berry who suddenly and publicly began questioning Aubry’s parenting skills.

Berry now admits all the back-and-forth hasn’t been easy. "It’s been a year full of challenges," she said. The American beauty has been dating French actor Olivier Martinez, 45, since last autumn.
