Christina Aguilera involved in song lawsuit

Sony paid wrong company for rights to use sample inAin’t No Other Man

The last six months have been fairly stressful for pop diva Christina Aguilera. Last October, she filed for divorce from husband of five years Jordan Bratman; in Februrary she mixed up the lyrics of the national anthem in front of millions of Super Bowl viewers; and on the first of this month, she was picked up by police for intoxication while her new boyfriend, Matt Rutler, was charged with driving under the influence.

Now, TMZ reports that Aguilera is being sued because her record company purchased the rights to sample the beat from 1968 song Hippy Skippy Moon Strut by Dave Cortez and the Moon People for her 2008 hit song Ain’t No Other Man – from the wrong company.

Sony bought the rights to use the sample from Codigo Music and the Clyde Otis Music Group, however, according to legal papers filed in New York, a company called TufAmerica has owned the exclusive rights to the original song since 2004.

Last Wednesday (March 2), TufAmerica filed a lawsuit against Codigo Music, as well as Sony Music Entertainment, and the Clyde Otis Music Group for copyright infringement with regards to the song sample – and is looking for compensation.
