The Pixies finally return to studio?

Legendary rock band may record first new album in 20 years.

American alt rock band The Pixies are starting to consider returning to the studio to record a new album, their first since 1991’s Trompe Le Monde, reports Spinner.

Following their reunion in 2004, the band has stuck to doing live performances of old classics. Since 2009, they have been continuously on tour supporting the 20th anniversary of their classic album Doolittle. Headlining in cities throughout the world, their shows consist of all the songs from the 1989 album.

Now, however, as the Doolittle tour nears its end, talk turns to the possibility of a new album.

"It’s still up in the air. We’ve been talking about this for about three years now, actually. I don’t know if it will come to fruition; I’m waiting and waiting to see what will happen," said drummer David Loverling in an interview with Billboard. "All I can say is if there is one, it better be good. We’d really have to work at it."

According to guitarist Joey Santiago, the band is waiting for inspiration to strike. "I guess there’s a little pressure from the legacy thing. Sure there is. But I don’t think there’s any preconceived thing that anyone could expect us to do. The possibilities are pretty wide open, I’d say."
