Drake shelves mixtape to work on album

Toronto-born rapper halts work on R&B mixtape to focus on studio album.

Toronto-born rapper Drake, 24, has announced that he will be shelving his R&B mixtape project in order to focus on his upcoming second studio album, reports Teen Music.

Drake had previously been working on the new album, Take Care, alongside a mixtape project titled It’s Never Enough – but the star announced Monday (February 7) that he would be shifting his full concentration to finishing his studio work.

"I have decided that I am going to push It’s Never Enough and focus completely on delivering Take Care to you all," the rapper posted on his blog. "I feel like my mind is truly ready to make this next album now and I don’t want that feeling to escape me."

After rising to fame as an actor on popular Canadian series Degrassi: The Next Generation, Drake was signed by Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment in June 2009. His debut album, Thank Me Later, was released a year later on June 15, 2010 and has since gone platinum.
