Emmy Rossum designs signature handbag

Phantom of the Opera actress teams up with Elie Tahari to create the Emmy.

Actress Emmy Rossum has partnered with luxury fashion designer Elie Tahari in order to create her own line of handbags, reports Coco Perez.

Unlike most celebrity endorsements, the Emmy collection of bucket bags was created to fill the Phantom of the Opera star’s own personal needs.

"I thought a lot about the kind of bag I wanted: versatile, worn by the working woman in any season… It was important that it had compartments in the sides, because I hate those big bags where your iPod cord gets mixed in with your lip gloss," explained Rossum to WWD.

The collaboration itself arose from a casual conversation between friends, according to Tahari: "I was talking to her about her style and I saw that she had good taste and she liked [my] bags. She’d say, ‘I wish it was this way, I wish it was like that…’ and I said, ‘You know what, Emmy? You come in and you design it like you like.’”

The Emmy sports a woven leather exterior with an interior of cotton canvas. On sale in March, it will be available in tan, black, mushroom, yellow, metallic. Four different sizes will retail between $398 and $798.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Safe Horizon, a charitable organization that helps victims of domestic violence, child abuse, rape and sexual assault.
