Legal dispute surrounds next Stones tour

Concert promoter battling with former employee over rights to manage band’s 50th anniversary tour.

Legendary English rockers, the Rolling Stones, may be gearing up for a 50th anniversary tour according to a legal battle currently underway between concert promoter Live Nation and former employee Michael Cohl, reports Clash.

Although the Stones have not yet announced any upcoming tour, Cohl and his former employers are currently engaged in a legal dispute over the rights to manage the band’s 50th anniversary tour.

After Cohl split with the company in 2008 over an argument with CEO Michael Rapino, an agreement was forged between the two parties. Live Nation would allow Cohl some access to previous clients, including the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Barbra Streisand; in exchange, Cohl was to pay instalments to the company totalling $9.85 million.

In November, Live Nation sued Cohl for an outstanding $5.35 million that had not yet been paid. Cohl has since retaliated, saying that Live Nation is in breach of contract for trying to bid against him on the potential anniversary tour, accusing them of hurting his relationship with the Stones and attempting to steal "the crown jewel" from his 2008 agreement with the company.

While members of the band have been informed of the dispute, they have refrained from comment.
