TV station creates iPhone app for Montreal visitors

French television station ARTV has launched a location-aware app for Montreal.

French-language cable television station ARTV has created an iPhone app, ARTVRAMA, that allows visitors to Montreal to view and explore media content based on their location in the city.

The free app is available through the iTunes store, and uses the iPhone’s GPS capability to detect the user’s current co-ordinates. Montreal visitors can then explore an interactive map to find musicians and artists currently performing around the city.

While users can rely on geographic location to learn about things going on nearby, the content is accessible anywhere, with clips of artist interviews, musical performances, and cultural news available for download.

For visitors wanting to see a different side of the city, ‘Buzz’ features reviews by other urban explorers – and allows users to contribute recommendations of their own. And with Twitter and Facebook plugins, users can share discoveries with friends online.

A single profile built in to the app, meanwhile, lets users pull all of this information together and keep track of their favourite videos and features.

More information can be found on the ARTVRAMA webpage (French only).
