Cerruti closes women’s line

Italian fashion house shuts down women’s fashion collection.

Italian fashion house Cerruti has announced it will cease production of its women’s ready-to-wear fashion collection in March, preferring to concentrate on its menswear collection, reports Vogue.

After unveiling the images of their new 2011 spring-summer campaign, produced by photographer Paolo Roversi and featuring model Camille Rowe, Cerruti announced the end of his women’s fashion collection.

After the brand was purchased in December by Chinese group Li & Fung, chief executive officer Florent Perrichon indicated that the plan was to focus on the men’s business.

“We prefer not to spread ourselves too thin in a field that is highly competitive,” he explained, adding that creative director for women’s wear Richard Nicoll would present his third and final collection for the house in March during Paris Fashion Week.

The Cerruti fashion house was founded in 1967 in Paris by the Italian stylist and fashion designer Nino Cerruti.

The house designs, manufactures, distributes, and retails luxury ready-to-wear, jeans, fragrances, sportswear, leather goods, watches, and accessories marketed under several, highly-specialized sub-labels including Cerruti 1881, Cerruti 18CRR81, Cerruti Jeans, Cerruti Parfums.

The company was owned by American firm Matlin Patterson Global Advisors since August 2006, until its purchase in December 2010 by Chinese company Trinity Ltd (Li & Fung Group).
