Travel website lists 2011 dirtiest hotels in Europe

Travellers’ reviews on TripAdvisor tallied for 2011 list of filthiest hotels in Europe.

Travellers have their say on travel website TripAdvisor by posting their first-hand experiences of some of the dirtiest hotels in Europe. While it’s only human to want to stretch your vacation dollar, you would be well-advised to check out the “list of shame” before surrendering your credit card number.

The list is dominated by three destinations: Turkey’s Aegean coast, and the cities of London and Amsterdam. The top two slots belong to Turkish hotels Club Aqua in Gumbet and the Altin Orfe in Icmeler – no pun intended.

For the cheap Turkish hotels, 95 percent of the travellers rated the hotel “terrible,” with comments like, “Pool was tainted by the sewer flooding into it whenever it rained,”and  “the air conditioning unit leaked on the bed…cracked tile in the shower area with bare wires showing.”

Positions three to five and number eight all belong to the English and help give London a bad reputation: Cromwell Crown, Corbigoe, Park, Blair Victoria & Tudor Inn hotels.

In the remaining spots, the Netherlands is home to three Amsterdam hotels on the list: Y Boulevard, Manofa, and The Globe. One Manofa reviewer cheekily noted, “Free mice with every room!”

To ensure you never set foot in one of these hotels, you may wish to include this sad top 10 in your bookmarks by going on TripAdvisor.com.
