Van Halen back in the studio

American rock band returns to studio with David Lee Roth for the first time in 27 years.

Some fans never thought it was possible, but former lead singer David Lee Roth has returned to the studio with his cronies from Van Halen to record their first album together in 27 years, reports Rolling Stone.

In 1984, when the American rock band was at its peak, Roth decided to leave the group to begin a solo career, and singer Sammy Hagar took his place for a couple of long stints.

After Sammy Hagar’s departure, David Lee Roth returned to the microphone in 2007 for a long tour with Van Halen.

Although no official announcement has been made, producer John Shanks tweeted about starting a project with the band.

Other than two contributing tracks on a 1996 great hits album, this would be Roth’s first appearance on a Van Halen record since 1984.

Other than the fact that band members are currently in the studio working on a new album, no release date or title has been revealed.

The band has not recorded any new material since their 11th studio album Van Halen III in 1998.
