The Pixies coming to Canada this spring

American alt rock band visits 13 Canadian cities in April and May on Doolittle tour.

Acknowledged as a major influence by artists like Kurt Cobain of Nirvana and Thom Yorke of Radiohead, American alternative rock band, the Pixies, will be performing a series of 13 concerts in Canada beginning this April.

The Doolittle tour, named in honour of their most significant album, Doolittle (1989), which the group will play in full, gets underway with their first show in Halifax.

The band will then successively visit the cities of Moncton (April 10), Quebec (April 12), Montreal (April 13), Ottawa (April 16), Kitchener (April 17), Toronto (April 18), Hamilton (April 20), Winnipeg ( April 27), Saskatoon (April 29), Calgary (April 30), Edmonton (May 1) and Vancouver (May 3).

The Boston band reunited in 2004, after an 11-year hiatus. Even though no new album is on the horizon, the Pixies are enjoying newfound success and fame since their return to the music scene. The band is credited with popularizing the extreme dynamics and stop-start timing that would come to define alternative rock, with songs that typically feature hushed, restrained verses, and explosive, wailing choruses.

Starting today (January 21), a limited number of tickets will be available through a special presale on www.pixiesmusic.com. In addition, all pre-sale purchases will include a “download taster” of live tracks from the Doolittle show. Tickets go on sale to the general public next Friday, January 28.
