Montreal winter carnival underway this weekend

La fête des Neiges de Montréal running Saturday, January 22nd to Sunday, February 6th.

The antidote to winter in Montreal gets underway this weekend when the 2011 Fête des Neiges welcomes its first visitors in the enchanting Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Sainte-Hélène this Saturday, January 22, until Sunday, February 6.

Whether it’s walking along the Parc’s trails or strolling through the very festive Allée Carnavalesque, tube-sliding, sleigh rides, playing boot or ice hockey, kick-sledding on the snow or skating alongside the river, La fête des Neiges promises lots of distractions to the chilly weather.

The friendly mascot Snowball, or Boule de Neige as they say in Quebec, will be welcoming visitors, joined by his friends who will be entertaining in the various activity areas.

On Saturday and Sunday, the site will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. Organizers strongly recommend the use of the St. Helena Island subway station near Parc Jean-Drapeau.
