Dr. Dre finally sets release date for new album

After years of waiting, Detox will finally hit shelves in April.

Rap artist Dr. Dre seems to have finally set an April release date for his long-awaited Detox album, reports MTV News.

A short video clip posted on his producer’s Twitter feed shows the rapper shouting the date into the camera: "4/20, baby… 4/20, I’m coming."

If true, this will be Dre’s first new music release since his 1999 album 2001, bringing an end to one of the longest waits between albums in hip-hop history.

2001 debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, and sold over 500,000 copies in its first week alone. Since then, it has gone platinum six times, after hitting 6 million sales in the U.S.

Dre recently performed with Jay-Z and Eminem, as part of their two-city Home and Home tour in September, which he credits with giving him inspiration to finally finish the album.

"Being on the stage with Eminem and Jay-Z was one of the most incredible feelings I’ve felt in a long time," he said. "It inspired me, it made me want to hurry up and get back in the studio and put more effort and more work into my own project.
