Quebec City number one for culture and sightseeing in Canada

TripAdvisor ranks the historic city as country’s top destination.

Historic Quebec City has been ranked as one of the top destinations in Canada by popular online travel site TripAdvisor, which awarded it first place for culture and sightseeing.

While visiting the fortified city, a trip to the Citadel is recommended where lucky visitors might be able to catch a military ceremony. When hunger strikes, go upscale with afternoon tea at Chateau Frontenac or hit the streets to savour the local delicacy of poutine – fries smothered with gravy and cheese curds.

Following in the TripAdvisor rankings, B.C. took both second and third place with Victoria and Vancouver respectively, and the country’s capital, Ottawa, came in fourth.

The province of Quebec earned a second mention, as Montreal rounded out the top five.

Ontario and the East Coast, meanwhile, dominated the bottom half of the top ten. Number six went to St. John’s, NL, and coming in seventh was Halifax, NS. Toronto, the country’s largest city and Ontario’s capital, was near the bottom at number eight, followed by another Ontario city, Stratford.

Finishing off the top ten was Nova Scotia’s historical Town of Lunenberg, home port of the iconic Bluenose II.
