Swarovski launches first perfume

Crystal glass brand makes fragrance debut with Aura.

Clarins announced the launch of Swarovski’s debut fragrance, Aura, which is the result of a 2008 partnership agreement between the French cosmetics company and the crystal glass manufacturer, reports Basenotes.

The cosmetics brand Clarins has collaborated with Swarovski once before for the creation of a limited edition bottle for designer Thierry Mugler’s fragrance Angel.

This first Swarovski fragrance, named Aura, was created by perfumers Jean-Pierre Bethouart and Olivier Cresp of the Swiss fragrance house Firmenich. Aura contains notes of notes of amber, benzoin, white musk, lychee, white tuberose and pink pepper. The refillable bottle was designed by Gwenaël Nicolas to be environmentally responsible.

Markus Langes-Swarovski said, “My great-great-grandfather invented a process that revolutionized crystal. Swarovski has evolved greatly over time, adding a wide array of new creations. The idea of a fragrance dates back to 2003, when we began thinking about adding even more femininity and emotion to the brand’s overall identity. The fragrance began to take form in 2007 and Clarins Fragrance Group has been the ideal partner…”

“…We wanted to push beyond fashion and glamour – Aura by Swarovski is a truly timeless concept. The idea of creating a fragrance and make-up jewels at the same time is totally innovative and very much in keeping with the brand.”

According to Clarins, the name, Aura, was chosen to connote the traces of the scent as well as the visual glow that emanates from jewels and crystals.
