Floating Ark Hotel is giant biosphere

Floating futuristic self-sustaining hotel based on the biblical Noah’s Ark.

A group of designers has envisioned a new kind of hotel which may well be the solution to future apocolypse scenarios. This revolutionary concept resembles a sci-fi movie set and has the tourism industry abuzz.

The Ark Hotel, named in honour of the biblical Noah’s Ark, presents a host of ingenious features that allow it to be self-sustaining. The biosphere is designed to float with the expected rise in sea levels.

Covered with a giant shell-like dome the design incorporates solar panels and recovery systems for rainwater. The transparent structure allows daylight to filter through to internal rooms, reducing the need for lighting.

The Ark was designed by Russian firm Remistudio with the assistance of the International Union of Architects’ program Architecture For Disaster Relief.

“For architecture there are two major concerns,” said Alexander Remizov of Remistudio. “The first is maintenance of security and precautions against extreme environmental conditions and climate changes. The second one is protection of natural environment from human activities.

“The Ark is an attempt to answer the challenges of our time. Provision is made for an independent life support system. All the plants are chosen according to compatibility, illumination and efficiency of oxygen producing, and with the aim of creating an attractive and comfort space.”
