Flaming Lips promise wild New Year’s Eve concert

Rock band will host its fourth annual New Year’s Eve Freakout concert in Oklahoma City.

Rock band, the Flaming Lips, is gearing up for an out-of-control fourth annual New Year’s Eve Freakout concert, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The New Year’s Eve event promises to be even wilder than the usual Flaming Lips concert.

"Our show is kind of like a New Year’s Eve show when it’s not … New Year’s Eve. So when we do a New Year’s Eve show, it’s out of control," says Wayne Coyne, the band’s lead singer.

While balloons and confetti are nothing new, the band promises "20 times more" will rain down on the audience during the December 31 concert than during a regular show.

"The audience, I think, want that. They’re on acid and they’re on mushrooms and on DMT and they want this over the top experience," added Coyne.

After midnight strikes, the band will play through their entire 1999 breakthrough album, The Soft Bulletin.

The show will be held at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, and experimental rock band, Stardeath and White Dwarfs, is scheduled to open.
