American rapper, singer, and record producer Kanye West’s new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, has been named album of the year by the editors of Spin magazine.
West’s newest offering was released in November to critical and commercial success, and it has already been crowned album of the year on 2010 lists from Billboard and Rolling Stone to Vibe and Spin. To date, it has topped U.S. and Canadian charts, and four official singles have been released: Power, Runaway, Monster and Dark Fantasy.
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is West’s fifth studio album. His last album, 808s & Heartbreak, was released in 2008, and he is currently working on Watch My Throne, a collaborative album with Jay-Z to be released in 2011.
Second on Spin‘s list was Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter, followed by Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs in third and LCD Soundsystem’s This is Happening in fourth. Jamey Johnson rounds out the top five with The Guitar Song.
