Yves Saint Laurent recycles for New Vintage

French fashion designers recycles old fabrics and designs for third New Vintage collection.

Environmentally-friendly French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent has recycled old fabrics and designs for the launch of their third New Vintage collection, reports Elle.

New Vintage III aims to reduce, reuse and recycle. To meet their objective, house designers used old fabrics and patterns from previous collections to give new life to old styles.

Wide-leg trousers made of a shiny metallic material, a leopard print wraparound dress, and a velvet tuxedo jacket are among the 180 pieces contained in this capsule collection. The classic styles harken back to Saint Laurent’s iconic 1970’s look.

New Vintage III is available in YSL flagship stores in Paris, London and New York. The run is extremely limited, with each piece individually numbered.

The YSL brand was founded in 1962 by the eponymous designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner, Pierre Bergé. Today, the company is a subsidiary of French multinational holding company PPR.

In its formative years, the YSL fashion house helped to popularize the 1970s beatnik look and was responsible for creating the iconic 1966 Le Smoking tuxedo suit for women, one of the first fashion trends to put women into clothing styles traditionally reserved for men.

Currently, YSL’s chief designer is Stefano Pilati, who joined the company in 2000 and took over from Saint Laurent in 2002.
