More snow and sleet for Europe

European airports race to clear Christmas travel backlog.

Snow forecasts across much of Europe tomorrow (December 24) threaten to paralyze travel again just as airline and rail operators were making progress in clearing a backlog of passengers stranded after winter storms earlier this week.

As weather conditions worsen, overnight a new wave of delays and cancellations have been announced by French train stations and airports. In anticipation of the bad weather, 20 per cent of flights at Roissy were cancelled.

Even before this new wave of severe weather arrives, French authorities have asked people to limit any travel to northern France since highways may need to be closed. This morning (December 23), the north was on storm alert.

Both the UK and France have been hit hard by winter storm conditions that neither country is in the habit of dealing with. The worst part is that the weather has arrived over the Christmas holidays, which is the busiest travel time of the year, as people hope to join their families for yuletide celebrations.
