Gisele Bündchen for Balenciaga

Brazilian supermodel stars in Spanish fashion house’s spring campaign.

Spanish fashion house Balenciaga unveiled the first images of its new advertising campaign for spring-summer 2011, which features Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen, reports Coco Perez.

Bündchen was featured in the catwalk line-up at the spring-summer 2011 fashion show, and Balenciaga’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière said: "It’s going to be a boyish season, so I wanted a twist on a man’s wardrobe; the masculine side of a woman is very intriguing."

Steven Meisel photographed the campaign with the Brazilian supermodel looking unusually androgynous in the shots.

The 30-year-old supermodel has represented several luxury brands including Christian Dior and Victoria’s Secret lingerie brand,

In becoming the face of Balenciaga, Bündchen follows in the footsteps of Stella Tennant, Freja Beha Erichsen and Karen Elson, who also posed for the upscale Spanish designer.

Gisele Bündchen, the highest-paid supermodel in the world, is married to American football quarterback Tom Brady, 33, and they have one son, Benjamin, born on December 8, 2009.

Balenciaga is a fashion house founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga, a Spanish designer, born in Spain’s historical Basque Country. He had a reputation as a couturier of uncompromising standards and was referred to as a “master” by Christian Dior. The house of Balenciaga is now owned by the French multinational company PPR.
