Chanel unveils shimmery new makeup palette

Parisian fashion house introduces Lumières Byzantines de Chanel.

Yesterday (December 7) at their Byzantium Paris show, Chanel fashion house unveiled a new exclusive compact, Lumières Byzantines de Chanel, designed by Peter Philips, international creative director of cosmetics, reports Vogue.

For the look of this gold and bronze palette, Phillips drew inspiration from the baroque jewelry collections that French jeweler Robert Goossens created exclusively for Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel in the 1950s.

Goossens’ designs were heavily influenced by paintings and artifacts in Paris museums, with inspiration most often taken from Maltese, Byzantium, and Renaissance works.

In tribute, Philips created Lumières Byzantines de Chanel, a limited edition compact that houses the five creamy shades of the make-up palette. The luminous metallic-coloured creams can be used as eyeshadow and highlighter. Only 1500 of the exclusive compacts will be available.

Goossen’s jewelry workshop north of Paris is still operating to this day, employing some fifty people to handcraft his designs, and the Goossens Showroom is on Avenue George V, one of the most fashionable streets in Paris. Some of his works are part of the Paris Musée des Arts Décoratifs collections.

Chanel is recognized as one of the most established names in fashion, specializing in luxury goods – haute couture, ready-to-wear, handbags, perfumery, and cosmetics among others. Known for its simple suits, dresses, women’s pants, and costume jewelry, the upscale fashion house is currently overseen by German fashion designer, Karl Lagerfeld.
