Fifth collaboration for Johnny Depp and Gore Verbinski

Johnny Depp re-teams with director to play Tonto in Lone Ranger remake.

It was recently announced that actor Johnny Depp, 47, will re-team with director Gore Verbinski to play Tonto in a new version of The Lone Ranger, reports Coming Soon.

Verbinski has just signed on with Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films to direct The Lone Ranger. This marks his fifth collaboration with Johnny Depp, who starred in three Pirates of the Caribbean films, and lent his voice to the animated feature Rango.

Depp has been attached to The Lone Ranger project for two years. Based on earlier radio serials of the 1930s, as well as later film and television projects, it tells the story of a group of Texas Rangers who were ambushed by a gang of outlaws.

An American Indian, Tonto (Depp), nurses the sole surviving Ranger back to health. Once cured, the Ranger dons a mask and riding his white stallion Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the murderous gang to justice.

On March 4, 2011, Rango, Depp and Verbinski’s fourth collaborative venture, will be released in theatres.
