Between 1880 and 1930, an art movement defined the city of Barcelona like many others around the world: that of modernism.
This movement, in contrast with the realism that preceded it, spawned a multitude of sub-movements like Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism, Futurism, Vorticist Imagism and expressionism.
Now a new museum in the city of Barcelona, Spain, the Museu del Catalan Modernism (Museum of Catalan modernism), is now showcasing this fertile period that has affected both the world of art and architecture. It will bring together 350 works by 42 artists such as Catalan Gaudí, Casas, Gargallo, Llimona, Urgell and Rusiñol, to name a few.
The new museum is located in a Modernist building with architecture that represents the same artistic movement exhibited within its walls.
