Christina Aguilera returns to original sound

Disappointing sales for overproduced Bionic album has singer returning to her roots.

Having disappeared for a few years after the birth of her son, Max, in 2008, pop singer Christina Aguilera has returned to a music scene only to find it virtually monopolized by the provocative Lady Gaga.

Hoping to reclaim her place on the charts, Aguilera changed her approach on her latest Bionic album and launched the provocative video Not Myself Tonight. Unfortunately, the album never took off and sales remained slow, reports Orange News.

The music industry criticized Aguilera for trying to copy Lady Gaga’s style of dress and electronic sound in the video. Lesson learned, Christina Aguilera will return to the more familiar territory of her smash hit album Stripped (2002).

"I think now we’re back to going a little deeper, in the vein where I recorded my Stripped record, which was very personal and more introspective."

Aguilera, 29, is currently in the studio recording her next album; the release date is unknown.
