Ottawa’s nature museum opens new water gallery

20-metre blue whale skeleton top attraction at museum’s new water gallery.

After a $216 million, six year renovation, the new Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa is captivating visitors with its new look.

The centrepiece of the newly-renovated museum is the new water gallery displaying an impressive 20-metre blue whale skeleton, the largest mammal in the world—fascinating young and old alike.

The fossil gallery, is home to no fewer than 25 different skeletons dating from the dinosaur era (75 million years ago), including some scary life-size models.

Until January 2011, visitors can get a jump on the museum’s temporary frog exhibit featuring a wide variety of live frogs including tree frogs, bullfrogs, giant toads and poison dart frogs. High-tech screens let visitors relive their old biology classes through virtual frog dissection.

On your next visit to the nation’s capital, be sure to put this recently renovated gem on your list.
