You might think that having sold 16 million copies of his first two albums, an artist might not want to deviate from the sound that made him a global pop star.
Despite all this success, James Blunt, 36, said he felt the need to change his approach while writing his new album, Some Kind Of Trouble, which is due in stores on November 8.
“After the last tour I tried writing at the piano, but I was repeating myself, writing sad songs about ‘poor old me.’ I needed to get away from music for a while. My new songs are more optimistic.”
The British singer, who spent six years in the military, was pessimistic about what his hit song You’re Beautiful, meant to the general public.
“One thing I did learn is that your artistic credibility goes out the window when you have a record that big. ‘You’re Beautiful’ meant something to me, but to most people, it’s a song they sing when they’re drunk.”
Blunt also contributed his vocals for the charity single, Everybody Hurts to help with the 2010 Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
