Gang and drug-related violence prompts band to cancel Monterrey gig.

Due to an increase in violence involving city drug cartels, The Jonas Brothers announced the cancellation of their Monterrey concert, according to mtv.com.

To ensure the safety of the band and their legion of fans, the October 21 concert was removed from the schedule, according to a statement from the band.

“Due to the recent series of unfortunate events in the city of Monterrey, Mexico, the Jonas Brothers, in consultation with Live Nation, have decided to cancel their upcoming concert date scheduled for October 21st at Estadio Universitario,” read the statement.

“The Jonas Brothers are grateful for the overwhelming support from their many fans in Monterrey and while they wish to apologize to everyone who planned to attend the concert, this difficult decision was made out of their great affection and concern for their loyal fans in the region.”

The band praised their Monterrey fans and said they hoped to be back very soon. Fans can switch their tickets to other Mexican concerts in Guadalajara and Mexico City, or get a refund.

In October alone, the city of Monterrey has had three grenade attacks, one that injured 14 people in a public square; and another injured four officers after in a police station.
