Jean-Paul Gaultier says aurevoir to Hermès

Jean-Paul Gaultier presents his last collection for Hermès this week

Yesterday (October 6), Jean-Paul Gaultier presented his last fashion show for luxury brand, Hermès, as part of Paris Fashion Week, reports nouvelobs.com.

The latest collection had models sporting long braids and Argentinian gaucho-style equestrian fashions that incorporated hats and riding boots, as well as decorative leather strapping reminiscent of a horse’s bridle. There may have been a few whips involved, but it’s difficult to tell from the online photo.

Once again, Gaultier applies his signature originality to his Hermès spring-summer 2011 collection. Speaking of his final Hermès collection, Gaultier said: “ It’s the end of a beautiful love story.”

After seven years designing for the brand, he stated he was pleased with his work there and that he learned a lot, particularly with regard to industry know-how and techniques.

Christophe Lemaire will assume the post of artistic director of ready-to-wear at Hermès in autumn 2011. Lemaire was creative director at Lacoste in 2000.

Gaultier will continue to maintain a relationship with Hermès, as it owns 45 per cent of his own brand, Jean-Paul Gaultier.
