Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep movie project

Star-studded cast being discussed for Pulitzer prize-winning play.

Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep could both be starring in August, a feature film adaptation of the Pulitzer prize-winning play, August: Osage County, by Tracy Letts, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The two mega-watt actresses are currently in negotiations to star in this film about family conflicts that rise to the surface after the death of the patriarch. Streep would play the drug-addicted matriarch, while Roberts is set to play the eldest daughter, whose estranged husband is having an affair.

Filmmaker John Wells will direct the film in the summer of 2011 from a screenplay written by Letts for the Weinstein Co.

The play debuted at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago in 2007, where it went on to Broadway and London, picking up the Pulitzer for drama and the Tony Award for best play. Harvey Weinstein has been developing the project since 2007.

Roberts most recently appeared in Eat, Pray, Love and appears next with Tom Hanks in Larry Crowne. Streep most recently appeared in It’s Complicated and Julie and Julia, winning raves for her portrayal of famous cookbook author, Julia Child.
