First commercial for Virgin space flights

Richard Branson narrates a nine-minute video about Virgin Galactic.

Is it a mere coincidence or planning well done? Whatever the case, the first Virgin space flight promo video launched yesterday (September 16) and aims to inspire a new generation of space tourism. On the very same day, Boeing announced that it also plans to offer trips into space.

Virgin launched a nine-minute promotional video and the narration and presentation feature none other than Sir Richard Branson. The Virgin CEO and visionary wanted to become the first to offer such trips for wealthy clients.

These out-of-orbit flights are available at a cost of $200,000 a pop. The concept has already attracted several hundred people who have booked their place on this short trip. Passengers will remain in orbit for about an hour.

For its part, Boeing announced that its seats will sell for $40 million apiece. However, the company is offering a real space odyssey. The Virgin Galactic flight is simply a trip into space, just beyond Earth in order to have the experience of weightlessness.

Virgin Galactic will begin its first commercial flights in the second half of 2011. You can see the promotional video here.
