Drake switches it up

Drake announces Tyga will now be the opening act on his new tour.

Drake starts a new tour next week. The Canadian rapper is fitting in nicely with the hip-hop elite, thanks in large part to his mentor, Lil Wayne. The incarcerated rapper took the young artist under his wing and introduced him to the hip-hop world, imprinting a strong work ethic along the way.

Drake just wrapped up the Away from Home tour. He kicks off a new round of shows on September 21 in Miami, in partnership with AT&T. The series of 11 shows takes place in the United States, including two in the Big Apple.

The Clipse were intially named as Drake’s opening act. He finally decided to go with Tyga, the 20-year old rapper who is part of the Young Money family, the label founded by Lil Wayne.

Drake’s new mini-tour is called the Light Dreams and Nightmares Tour. He will continue playing small venues but promises fans some important changes to his live performance.

He told MTV News: "It’s gonna be a real interesting tour. I’m adding all the stuff from Thank Me Later. I’m excited to perform in a world. I’ve never done that before. I’ve got background singers now to make stuff sound sweeter."

The tour wraps up on November 4 in Universal City, California, not far from where Tyga grew up.
