Swedish actress Noomi Rapace snags a lead role in Sherlock Holmes 2.

Heat Vision reports the Swedish actress will join Robert Downy Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) and Jude Law (Dr. Watson) in the sequel to the highly popular film.

Guy Ritchie is once again sitting in the director’s chair.

Story details have not yet been released but there is a rumour that Rapace will play a French gypsy. The Heat Vision report also suggests the detective will be confronted by his nemesis, Dr. Moriarty, in the second film and that Holmes’ older brother, Mycroft, will also appear.

Shooting will begin in October and the release date is listed as December 16, 2011.

Noomi Rapace also starts with Timothy Dalton in Clean Out. No release date has been established for this film.
