Emmy Awards wrap up

Here’s a look at the big winners at last night’s Emmy Awards.

The Emmy Awards ceremony was broadcast live last night (August 29) from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Host Jimmy Fallon kicked things off with a performance of Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run. He was joined on stage by some famous faces including Tina Fey, Kate Gosselin, Jon Hamm and the incomparable Betty White.

Here’s a roundup of the major winners at the 61st Emmy Awards:

Modern Family beat out Glee and other nominees to win Outstanding Comedy.

Mad Men won Outstanding Drama series for the third year in a row.

Edie Falco won Lead Actress in a Comedy for her role in the dark comedy Nurse Jackie. Jim Parsons won Lead Actor in a Comedy for The Big Bang Theory.

Jane Lynch (Glee) and Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family) won awards for Supporting Actress and Actor in a Comedy.

Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) won Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama.

Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) won awards for Supporting Actress and Actor in a Drama.

Claire Danes won Best Actress in a TV Film for her role in Temple Grandin where she played the renowned autism activist. Mick Jackson won Best Director for the series while Julie Ormond and David Strathhairn received Best Supporting Actress and Actor awards for their roles in the movie.

Top Chef won in the Reality-Competition Program category while Jeff Probst was named favourite Host in a Reality or Reality-Competition Program.

George Clooney received the prestigious Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.
