Cancer strikes Michael Douglas

Actor Michael Douglas is about to fight the battle of his life.

Actor Michael Douglas has been diagnosed with throat cancer. His spokesperson announced that doctors recently found a tumour in his throat.

The 65-year old heavy smoker will undergo eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy to get rid of the tumour. Douglas released a brief statement to People magazine saying, "I am very optimistic." Doctors expect he will be able to make a full recovery.

Michael Douglas is the son of Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas. He is married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones. The two actors share the same birthday, September 25, though Zeta-Jones was born 25 years after Douglas. They have two young children, Dylan, 10, and Carys, 7. Michael Douglas also has another son, Cameron, 31, from his first marriage.

Douglas has a new film coming out on September 24. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps is a sequel of sorts to the film Wall Street that came out in 1987 and earned him an Oscar.
