Charlize Theron wants her life back

Academy Award winner Charlize Theron wants to rekindle an old romance.

Charlize Theron has joined the cast of Young Adult. The Academy Award-winning actress signed on to play the lead role in this dark comedy by Mandate Pictures.

She will play a 30-something, divorced ghostwriter of young adult novels who decides to return to her hometown of Minneapolis. She wants to reconnect with an old flame but there’s a small problem… the former boyfriend is now married and is the father of a young child.

Academy Award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer’s Body) wrote the script and director Jason Reitman (Juno, Up in the Air) is in talks to direct.

It looks like this film will be a Juno class reunion. Mr. Mudd’s Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith will produce along with Mason Novick. Mr. Mudd founder John Malkovich will serve as executive producer, along with Mandate president Nathan Kahane.

Shooting should start in November in New York.

In the meantime, Charlize Theron is getting ready to shoot Mad Max: Fury Road. Shooting will start in February 2011 and the film should hit theatres in 2012.
