King of Pop, gone but not forgotten

A new Michael Jackson album will be released in the fall.

A new album of unreleased Michael Jackson songs will hit store shelves in November. Rolling Stone magazine reports the collection of never-before-heard songs is just the first of many.

The King of Pop died in June 2009 from a drug overdose. He left behind hard drives filled with completed songs. His manager told Rolling Stone there are more than 100 unreleased songs, including collaborations with Akon, Will.i.am and Ne-Yo.

Frank DiLeo commented: "There are a couple of songs we recorded for the Bad album that we had to cut that are just sensational."

The former president of Sony Music, Tommy Mottola, explained last year that Michael Jackson used to record 20 to 30 songs per album. Then the number of songs was whittled down to complete each album. That leaves dozens of songs in the vault that are now on track to be released.

Michael Jackson’s estate signed a seven year, 10-project deal with Sony Music in March. The deal is worth an estimated $250 million and reportedly includes reissues of classic Jackson albums, new greatest hits sets, a DVD collection of all the King of Pop’s music videos and possibly a Cirque du Soleil show.
